Feds bring their 'A game'

There's a reason the feds labeled him "A" among the co-schemers.

Using their strongest language yet, federal prosecutors alleged that Springfield power broker William Cellini played a significant role in a scheme with Antoin "Tony" Rezko to extort kickbacks and campaign contributions from investment firms seeking state business.

In a government response filed late Wednesday, prosecutors contended Cellini, identified only as "Co-Schemer A," took part in both the attempted extortion of one investment firm and a plan to divert a finder's fee in another deal to someone he knew hadn't done any work for the money, prosecutors said
