Jerry Owens feeling better

My good friend Jerry Owens is feeling better after a tough bout of cancer. He's home in Springfield, back almost at full strength. He's a gem of a guy, a true Illinois original.

A former All-State basketball player at nearby Pleasant Plains, Jerry served in government as a spokesman for various politicians, including Cecil Partee, Roland Burris, Neil Hartigan and Jim Ryan. His favorite job, however, was columnist for the Springfield paper, where he was the Bernie Schoenburg of his day.

I worked closely with Jerry in the Attorney General's office for eight years and can attest to his unparalleled knowledge of Illinois politics, history, and geography. Many people know Jerry and I'm sure he'd love to hear from you.

His address is 2405 Raleigh, Springfield, IL. 62704. His phone number is 217-793-3628. E-mail is not an option because Jerry resisted the computer age and instead clung for many years to his trusty manual typewriter.
